Vancouver Quartzite Transforms a Paradise Valley Kitchen

Some materials just stop you in your tracks. Vancouver Quartzite is one of them. When a Paradise Valley homeowner came to us looking to completely reimagine their kitchen, this stone was the clear answer. The result is one of our favorite projects to date, a modern luxury remodel that uses natural stone from floor to ceiling and edge to edge.

A Full Commitment to Natural Stone

This was not a partial application. The entire kitchen backsplash, including the dramatic window surround wall, was clad in Vancouver Quartzite. The perimeter countertops, the island, and the waterfall edges all follow suit. Even a custom console table in the space features the same slab, making the material a true thread throughout the home rather than just a countertop choice.

When a client commits to stone at this level, the install demands precision. Every seam, every miter, every waterfall edge has to be deliberate. Our team handled full fabrication and installation in-house, which is how we make sure the finished product matches what we envisioned from the start.

Why Vancouver Quartzite?

Vancouver Quartzite is sourced through Arizona Tile, one of our primary natural stone suppliers here in Phoenix, and quarried from a bedrock quarry in Brazil. It has a creamy grey background with grey and taupe veining, and subtle hints of rose that show up depending on the light and the slab. The movement in the stone is dramatic without being loud, which makes it a wonderful fit for large format applications like full wall backsplashes.

The bigger story here is durability. Vancouver resembles marble closely enough that it satisfies that same desire for elegance and visual movement. But quartzite is significantly harder than marble, meaning it stands up to the scratching and etching that marble owners often deal with in a working kitchen. For a high-use space like this one in Paradise Valley, that peace of mind is worth a lot.

The Details That Make the Difference

The window surround is what people notice first in this kitchen. Running the stone continuously around the frame, with recessed lighting above and a seamless transition to the countertop below, required careful planning at the template stage. There are no grout lines breaking up the surface here. The stone reads as one continuous element across the entire wall, and the effect is genuinely striking.

The island waterfall edges carry that same idea forward. The slab wraps from the horizontal surface down both sides in a clean, uninterrupted line. It is a straightforward detail on paper, but the bookmatching and the precision of the miter joints are where the craftsmanship lives.
