IvoriTaj Quartz Countertops Transform a Phoenix Kitchen and Butler’s Pantry

When our customer moved into their Phoenix home, the kitchen had good bones but needed a countertop that could carry the whole space, island, perimeter, and a butler’s pantry included. They landed on IvoriTaj quartz from MSI, and the result is a kitchen that feels calm, bright, and ready for daily use the moment you walk in.

Why IvoriTaj Quartz Fit This Phoenix Kitchen

IvoriTaj is an engineered quartz from MSI’s Q Quartz collection, and it reads like a soft, warm quartzite without the maintenance quartzite demands. The background is a creamy ivory, and it’s threaded with soft grey veining that moves in long, natural-looking sweeps rather than repeating in an obvious pattern. In a Phoenix kitchen that gets strong natural light most of the day, that combination keeps the surface bright without going stark white.

Quartz also made practical sense for this project. It’s non-porous, so there’s no sealing to keep up with, and it stands up to the kind of daily cooking this kitchen was clearly built for, between the professional range and the stacked wall ovens.

“It’s the kind of countertop that disappears into the kitchen in the best way. You notice the space, not the seams.”

An Island With a Mitered Edge

The island is the centerpiece of the room, and we ran a mitered edge. Mitering doubles up the quartz along the vertical face so the edge reads as one thick, solid slab instead of a thin countertop wrapped around a box. It’s a detail that costs more in material and fabrication time, but it’s what gives an island this size the substantial, furniture-like look.

Countertops That Carry Into the Butler’s Pantry

Rather than stop at the main kitchen, we carried the same IvoriTaj quartz into the home’s butler’s pantry, giving it a matching L-shaped counter and a straight run along the back wall. It’s a detail that ties the two spaces together and gives the homeowner a second real prep and staging area, not just an afterthought counter.

Backsplash wasn’t part of our scope on this project, so these walls are staged for that next phase, but the counters themselves are complete and ready to work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IvoriTaj quartz durable enough for a busy kitchen?
Yes. As an engineered quartz, it’s non-porous and highly resistant to scratching, staining, and heat compared to many natural stones, which makes it a strong fit for a kitchen that sees daily cooking.

Does IvoriTaj quartz need to be sealed?
No. Unlike granite or marble, quartz countertops don’t require sealing. A simple wipe-down with mild soap and water keeps it looking like day one.

What is a mitered edge, and is it worth it?
A mitered edge joins two pieces of quartz at a 45-degree angle so the finished edge looks like one thick slab rather than a thin countertop. It’s most common on waterfall islands, like the one in this kitchen, and it’s worth the extra fabrication for the solid, high-end look it gives a large island.
